Singer was performing on stage with the Gorillaz when he decided to spark up mid-way through a live set in the non-smoking venue. As you can imagine this didn’t go down too well with anti-smoking campaigners who are said to be ‘outraged‘ by his actions pointing out that Damon could be fined up to £2,500. That’s one expensive ciggy!
Bosses at Action on Smoking and Health are calling for Albarn and guest performer Paul Simonon, who also smoked the cigarette to be punished!!
They added: “It’s not just illegal but more importantly it’s about the message it sends out to fans. People in the public eye have a duty not to promote smoking. It’s very irresponsible…”
The Gorillaz have very recently made a come back releasing a new album, Plastic Beach, which debuted at number 2 in the charts and have today announced two concert dates – their first proper gigs in London since 2001.
The animated group will perform at the Roundhouse on April 29 and 30 in support of their new album Plastic Beach.
A message on their website said: “For those not lucky enough to catch the intimate fan club shows, Plastic Beach will touch down in London on April 29 and 30 as the music of Gorillaz is performed over two nights at London’s Roundhouse.
