Justin Bieber’s rise to pop stardom has been so fast he’s already spawned a comic book about him, rumors of a book, although not quite a memoir, and now a film!

Top director John Chu has signed on to tell the Beib’s story.

Paramount Pictures on Friday (Aug. 13) said producers had hired Chu, best known for his dance movie, “Step-Up 3D,” to direct a flim focusing on Bieber’s fantastic rise from YouTube darling to international teen pop star of the moment.

“Most people don’t know that this is a true underdog story, and I hope to tell it in a compelling, genuine way, using all source materials available to convey his tale of becoming an icon for this digital age,” Chu said in a statement.

The movie, which will be part documentary, almost didn’t make it out of the concept stage when top documentary filmmaker Davis Guggenheim (“An Inconvenient Truth”) pulled out of the project.

He wanted to spend more time promoting his education film, “Waiting for Superman.”

But Chu adds major credibility to the film. The movie is slated for release in time for Valentine’s Day weekend 2011.
