Billie Joe Armstrong has signed on to return for 50 performances after making his Broadway debut in American Idiot.

According to Access Hollywood, producers say the Green Day frontman will reprise the role of St. Jimmy in the musical that his songs inspired.

He will be taking on the role from 1st Jan to the 27th Feb at The St. James Theatre.

Having the musical’s composer and co-author aboard has already proved a big draw. When Armstrong made his Broadway debut in September for a week, the box-office take was more than $1 million. Last week, the show grossed $600,000.

The show is based on Green Day’s American Idiot concept album, about an antihero who flees a deadening life in suburbia to find himself in the big city.
