The 5 Catchiest Songs of the Moment

There are some catchy songs in the charts at the moment – here are five that are stuck in my head.

The UK Top 40 Singles Chart is a funny thing; sometimes it’s full of junk, sometimes it’s fantastic.

At the moment there are several chart heavyweights and a few new tunes going round and round in my head, so I’m going to share them with you in the hope that you’ll check them out and get them stuck in your head too.

Somebody That I Used To Know – Gotye (feat. Kimbra)

Somebody That I Used To Know has been in the charts for an impressive 27 weeks now! The hit track, in which two former lovers exchange accusations, has become a bit of an anthem for the broken hearted, with those fresh out of relationships finding it almost therapeutic to belt out at the top of their lungs.
With beautiful lyrics, hypnotic music and Gotye and Kimbra’s beautiful voices, we can’t help but wish the crazy kids would just work things out and get back together – oh, it’s just a song?

Call Me Maybe – Carly Rae Jepsen

Hey, I just met you, and this is crazy… who doesn’t have this song stuck in their head? It’s been covered and spoofed by everyone and their best friend and there’s still no sign of people getting bored of it.
It’s been in the charts for 15 weeks now, and it seems most people either love it or love to hate it… or hate to love it, I think that’s more accurate.
It’s super-catchy, it’s fun and it’s got a hot boy in the music video. Win.

We Are Young – fun.

It was fun.’s We Are Young that ended Carly Rae Jepsen’ reign of terror/joy (delete where applicable) on the top spot with Call Me Maybe, and after 13 weeks in the charts it’s still in the top 10!
While quizzing musicians on the charts today, it was James Bourne who hit the nail on the head. When asked who was currently at number one, James started singing fun.’s We Are Young (they were number one at the time). “Do you know what? I didn’t have a clue,” he admitted. “I guessed it because that’s the best song out at the moment.”
It’s really fun (get it?) to sing at the top of your voice, although not as effortless as Nate Ruess makes it seem.

Drive By – Train

Train are not a new band, and yet their ability to move with the times is flawless. Despite appearances, Drive By is not some gangsta rap tune, it’s a slice of pop gold from the sexy Patrick Monahan and co. After just a few plays, the song was instantly inducted into my list of favourite Train songs of all time. It has an awesome video too! There are romcom vibes to start with, before things get a little Fast & Furious with some pretty cool cars (although no one is fast or furious – this is a love story).

Never Close Our Eyes – Adam Lambert

Adam Lambert is a favourite here at Flecking HQ, but I had no idea just how infectious his new tune, Never Close Our Eyes, could be. After just a few plays the most unlikely team members were wandering around singing the chorus.
Adam Lambert’s track has everything you could want – great lyrics, a tune you can shake your butt too and that voice! Wow, that voice! There’s a pretty cool music video to go with it, too.
The track has been released here in the UK and is set to make a mark on the UK charts.
