The Lion King Review

Cards on the table: The Lion King is the best musical you will see this year. Or, quite possibly, ever.

There’s was a lot of hype when it was first announced that Disney’s most popular show was to tour the UK and many worried it wouldn’t translate well as a touring production due to the sheer size and scale of the show itself. It took Disney 16 years to get The Lion King on a UK tour but it sure was worth the wait.

The puppetry in The Lion King (designed by Julie Taymor) is performed flawlessly throughout, thus really transporting the audience to the African setting of the show. Gasps were heard from the audience throughout as the animals were brought to life onstage in various scenes which were nothing short of visually stunning.

The young actress playing Nala was fantastic and looks sets to have a bright future ahead of her whilst Stephen Carlile made the audience love and hate him in equal measure thanks to his incredible portrayal of the villainous Scar.

To put it simply, The Lion King is one of those rare musicals that everyone should get to see at least once. Or twice. Or three times. You get the idea…
