The Golden Quotes

Ricky Gervais and Sacha Baron Cohen are not people you would usually associate with booing, however at the Golden Globes they were booed! Shocking.

I’m not sure where Gervais went to comedy school, but the Holocaust isn’t usually comedy gold. He was the first to have the star-studded audience shuffling uncomfortably with a gaffe about the Holocaust, which he followed up awkwardly with some sex talk. Ew.

The red-faced comic then handed over to Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen, who was met with a barrage of boos after launching into an unprovoked attack on Madonna and Victoria Beckham.

Starting his offensive, Gervais waded in to silence the audience at the Los Angeles’ Hilton as he presented an award.

‘Shshsh! How rude you lot are, just because you are film stars’, he said.

Turning to double winner Kate Winslet, who won her Best Supporting Actress gong for Holocaust film The Reader, Gervais blundered: ‘What did I tell you, Winslet – do a Holocaust movie [like The Reader], win an award … That’s the trouble with Holocaust films: There’s no gag reel on the DVD.’

Disappointed at his own failure to be nominated, the portly comic then bashed the Hollywood Foreign Press, which hands out the Globes.

‘That’s the last time I have sex with 200 middle-age journalists,’ he said. ‘Europeans with wispy beards. And the men were worse.’

He then passed the gaffe baton on to Sacha Baron Cohen, who was jeered for his attack on Madonna.

‘Madonna has had to get rid of one of her personal assistants. Our heart goes out to you, Guy Ritchie’, said Cohen, on stage to hand out the Best Comedy for Vicky Christina Barcelona.

Continuing his offensive, he insisted Victoria Beckham hadn’t eaten for days and then finished by joking that US star Charlie Sheen had bagged some sex without paying for it.

Meanwhile, Irish bad boy Colin Farrell joked about his past drug addiction as he scooped the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy gong for In Bruges.

Sniffing, he joked: ‘I still have a cold. It’s not the other thing it used to be.’

Remind us – who’s the comedians and who’s the actor?
