Stephenie had a vivid dream in June 2003, of a sparkly, beautiful boy and a girl in a meadow. He was a vampire and declared his love for the girl, but at the same time he wanted to kill her.

Stephenie eventually put the dream to paper and pushed by her sister she submitted her work to publishers.

‘I got nine rejections, five “no” answers and then one “I’d like to read more”,’ Stephenie recalls.

By November 2003, she’d signed a £487,000 three-book deal with Little, Brown and Company.

Her earnings are now said to be over £34 million.
