After the world media blamed Gino D’Acampo and Stuart Manning for killing, cooking and eating a rat on I’m A Celebrity…, ITV have taken all the blame, saying that it was them that released it into the camp and told the two men that it was fine to kill and cook it.

This still doesn’t stop both Gino and Stuart facing some serious charges, and although ITV are backing them and will help in any way they can, it’s not quite enough. One source from I’m A Celebrity… said last night, “The production was unaware that killing a rat could be an offence.”

Cruel or fine? What do you think should happen to Gino and Stuart?

British Soap Awards 2008 - ArrivalsI’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here winner Gino D’Acampo and Stuart Manning face charges of animal cruelty after cooking and eating a rat while in the jungle.

The RSPCA in New South Wales, Australia, said it was “not acceptable” that a rat had been killed by the pair as part of a performance.

Police confirmed they had issued court attendance notices for 3 February 2010.

The pair ate the rat after they were “exiled”, with only rations of rice and beans to eat.

Gino told the Bush Telegraph: “I saw one of these rats running around. I got a knife, I got its throat, I picked it up.”

Ch Insp David Oshannessy, from the RSPCA in New South Wales, told BBC Radio 5 live there was a “code of practice” which dictated how animals could be used in theatrical productions and films.

“The killing of a rat for a performance is not acceptable. The concern is this was done purely for the cameras,” he said.

A spokesman added: “Police from Murwillumbah yesterday issued field court attendance notices to two men aged 30 and 33 for the offence of animal cruelty.

“They are due to attend court at Murwillumbah local court on 3 February 2010.”

The Sunday People have reported today that viewers of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here are furious – after Gino D’Acampo confessed he cheated to win.

Gino has told how he broke the rules by smuggling salt, sugar, tea bags and coffee into the jungle camp.

An insider on the ITV1 show said they received a stream of complaints that Gino used his smuggled supplies unfairly to make him popular in the camp.

Gino con-fessed on ITV2 early yesterday: “My luxury was a pillow, which is very stuffable. So I stuffed it with a lot of salt, sugar, four different teas, ten sachets of coffee.

“I had it in my shoes as well. I thought, ‘If the security guys catch the stuff in the pillow, I still have the stuff in the shoes.

“I never used a single salt sachet for myself. I used to pass it to Stuart Manning and he put it in the food.

“It was funny. Everybody said, ‘This tastes like it’s got salt in it’. I would say, ‘Well, when you caramelize potato the natural sugar and salt comes out of it’.”

The ITV source said: “Viewers who voted throughout the show are furious. They’re disappointed in Gino. They feel he wasn’t honest. They feel duped.”

Poor Gino! He may have broken the rules, but we don’t think that is the reason he won.
